Gearboxes

Along the years, I have developped a huge number of various gearboxes.

Starting in 2016 with almost no knowlage about them, it was very tricky just to conceptualise how I could build a simple 2 speed gearbox… But eventually, I worked it out and brought a passion for Gearboxes !!

Always wanting to invent some new stuff, and unhance already existing designs.

Here’s a list of all the gearboxes I have worked on, for most of which I have built lots of prototypes:

– 2 Speed Conventional
– 4 Speed Conventional
– 6 Speed Conventional
– 3 Speed + Reverse Conventional
– 3 Speed Differential
– 5 Speed Differential
– 2 Speed ISMG (Infinitely Stackable Modular Gearbox)
– 3 Speed ISMG
– Linkage Ratcheting CVTs
– Sphere CVT
– Conical CVT
– Automatic Gearboxes
– Semi Automatic Gearboxes

Which can be divided into 4 categories :
– Conventional
– Differential
– ISMG
– CVT / IVT
– Hybrids

Conventional Gearboxes consist of gearboxes used in original Lego sets.
Which have been derived by many Lego Builders without modifying the original essence.

Differential Gearboxes generally use a differential gear to add / substract different rotational pathways, resulting in several possible speeds.

ISMGs, Infinitely Stackable Moular Gearboxes have their own category.
They consist of separate identical modules, stacking up, multiplying the number of different ratios between them. They are made very usefull to create a CVT-like smooth output, or for an enormous part reduction !

CVT / IVT [Continuously/Infinitely Variable Transmission] basically change the input/output ratio soothly, without steps.
